A parent asked, “The group that went on a field trip to the Los Angeles Library, has it returned yet?” I said I didn’t know. Because I know the parent and her two children attending Jefferson, I asked which of the two had gone on the trip. She said none. She explained that a relative had gone on the trip; her 18 year old niece.

Being in a good mood, I said, “Mmm, 18, eh? When are you going to introduce me to her?” The parent had trouble containing her laughter. Then she said her niece’s mother would be with her, so maybe today wouldn’t be a good time. Ah, of course. 🙂

To make up for my rudeness, I decided to go find out what time the bus would be returning. I left the parent momentarily to go to the office and ask. I returned with news: 2:30pm. She then asked if I thought she’d have enough time to go to the store and return. She laughed again when I asked, “Well, which one?” She must have been like, “Lets see, I’m carrying a stroller, so that means I’m not about to walk to the Panorama Mall, which is 20 minutes away. I’m talking about the liquor store at the corner, of course!”

The lady went and returned. Just then the bus was arriving. Before the niece and her mother got off, the parent looked at me and signaled me to come to her. I signaled a “No, thanx!” but she insisted on me coming to her. The same gestures went back and forth. I could not believe it! It’s like the mother wanted to teach me a lesson by embarrassing the hell out of me! I could have pictured her, “Niece, this is Mr. Quiterio and he was dying to meet you.”

Well, I guess that wouldn’t have been too bad. The girl was cute, after all. But it’s precisely cute girls I must avoid meeting. I do not want to desire a girl other than Nicole. I want to focus my cravings on her. want to see how far our thing will go, and for that to happen, she and I must not have eyes for anybody else but each other. It’s for our own good.
