Are you the kid I gave the baseball glove to?

“Yes,” I responded to she who had been my sixth grade teacher, whom I hadn’t seen since 1991. Back then we weren’t able to hold the most basic conversation because I couldn’t speak English, but as she said, “We connected at another level.” That we did.

What was she doing in front of my house? Well, it so turned out that her daughter lived in the building next to the house where I live. Today she came by to pick up something the daughter had left behind.

But hey, how weird is that? Being able to talk to someone (without the use of intermediaries) when in the past you couldn’t because you didn’t share a language in common. I wish I had been able to say more to her about my experience in sixth grade, but I don’t think she would have wanted to hear the crush I had developed for Beatriz, a girl in the classroom next-door. 😀
