Monday, April 7, 2003I hate going to work without a dollar in my wallet. What was I so busy doing this weekend that I didn’t make time to look for my ATM card and head to the bank to get some money? In the first chance I had, I left Jefferson to head to the bank. It’s a ten minute thing, and I didn’t think anything would occur that could make me take longer than that. Yeah, right. Near the Van Nuys – Roscoe intersection I rear-ended another car. I couldn’t believe it. The other driver opened the door of his car, but got back in when he saw my signal…. I was pointing to the right, trying to tell him to get off the road before inspecting our cars. We got off the road and parked our cars. I didn’t care to see mine. I went straight to his. He looked at me and signaled a “nothing.” I approached him anyway. He said, “Thank you for stopping. I had an accident before and the driver didn’t stop.” We shook hands and I said “Sorry for wasting your time.” Mmm, if there’s anything worth living for, it’s experiencing the great feeling that is relief! You see, I was big time scared because… These past days I’ve been concerned that my car insurance would expire around these days. I just didn’t know when. Was it yesterday? The day before? Next month? Upon hitting the other guy’s car, I assumed the worst — I thought, “Okay, my insurance has expired.” Yet I didn’t run away from the situation. It didn’t even cross my mind. I didn’t bring my hands to my face and say “Oh, God!” and immediately after ” Oh, but I’ve got a sporty car that can easily take that geek’s Corolla!” No, I lowered the window to bring my hand out and make a signal to the other driver. I was to face the consequences, whatever they were. Fortunately, this time the consequences were nothing more than a BIG SCARE and a three-minutes loss. What was the first thing I did when I arrived home? Yup, I checked my insurance policy’s due date. I still got a month and a half. 🙂 Posted by at 8:27 pm [Permalink]
