Every morning is the same story, children arriving to Jefferson ten minutes after the bell has rung. It’s an unusual day when the lady with the twins and the Mexican mother with the two white-looking kids arrive to Jeffersonon time. So rare that when it occurs, I feel like closing my eyes, opening my arms, and getting on my knees to say “Oh Lord, the apocalypse is upon us!”

Heh, there was a period when the lady with the twins was starting to bring them on time on a regular basis. In amazement I said to her, “Hey, be careful. They might get used to this!”

In another occasion that she brought them early, I looked toward the east side of the street as she was standing next to me. It was already five minutes past the morning bell. Without removing my eyes from the distance, I made my best face of concern and said “The mother and her children usually arrive at around this time. I don’t see them coming. I wonder where they are.”

Noticing my tone of voice, she, too, became concerned. She brought her hand to her mouth. She was pensive. I couldn’t hold it any longer and bursted in laughter. She said, “Heyyyyyy”… she realized I was talking about her. 🙂 Hehe.

Well, today, as I was about to close the entrance gate, a coworker and I saw a mother, a father, and their three children walking toward the school. This particular coworker cannot keep her thoughts to herself, “Look at them walking as if they were not in a hurry. Close the gate!” Heh. They must have heard her, because then they started moving faster. She laughed and said, “What is the father running for?? He’s not a student here!”

That sight triggered a story. She shared it with me. She said that on one occasion a whole family had gone to the bus station. As they were arriving, their bus was about to leave. They ran after it and one of them managed to get on the bus. Those who didn’t make it, stayed and laughed.

People looked at them and said, “Hey, at least he made it to the bus! You didn’t! He should be laughing at you!” Then the spectators joined in the laughter when they were told that the guy who made it in the bus was there to drop them off, not to make the trip!

Heh, fine, I’m done with the cheesiness…. for today. 🙂
