Ah, the first day of a new school-year. My supervisor lived up to her word, there are now four yard supervisors during recess and lunch — the same four, the best four. 🙂 None of us arrived ten-fifteen minutes late. None of us left early. None of us wasted time chatting or playing with our hair. We worked our arse off, even teaching the new first-graders how to play handball and foursquare. I say we give the first-graders something to do, and they won’t have much time to run around like nuts, giving little girls reason to whine about other boys and girls, “They are chasing us!”

There are new teachers at Jefferson. When I saw them yesterday for the first time, I thought, “Mmm, cute.” Now, I’m more inclined to say, “Eh.” And that’s a good thing, right Nicole? 🙂

The hardest part of the day was trying to keep the parents from entering the school. On one side, I had the principal telling me not to allow any parents to enter the school, on the other I had the parents telling me that they did not agree with being kept from bringing their kids to the classroom and meeting the teachers. The parents won this one… they came in, dropped off their kids, ran circles around me as they pointed their fingers at me — laughing, of course — and went out satisfied they had done as they had pleased. Heh.
