I went to play soccer today. There was a guy there that I don’t know that well, so today when he said to me, “How’s the baby?” I said “Fine”, hoping that was the right thing to say. I wondered what he was talking about.

There were three scenarios I considered. One, I knew I was getting cuter and cuter by the day (LOL), but now I’m baby-cute?! Two, I wondered if he was making reference to the size of my tummy… was he trying to say that I’m so fat that I’m pregnant-looking?! Three, did I get married, have kids, and forgot all about it?! You would be surprised how often I forget vital facts about me!

After the game, another guy came up to me. This one said, “Congratulations on the baby!” Haha, what was he talking about?! Wanting to know where he had gotten that crazy of an idea, I asked him how he found out about it — I knew that by asking that, he’d conclude that I in fact had a newborn baby, but I didn’t care! I wanted to know what was up! He went up to the first guy who mentioned the baby to me, and then it all started to make sense.

This guy, “Cobi”, said that he was at the hospital recently, and there he saw a guy who looked familiar. Furthermore, the familiar-looking guy spoke to him. The guy asked Cobi why he hadn’t gone to play soccer the day before. In the conversation, the guy mentioned to Cobi that he was at the hospital because his wife had given birth. So, all along, Cobi thought he had been talking to me! Come on, tell me something new!

I’m so average-looking, that I’m often mistaken for someone else. You wouldn’t believe how often kids at Jefferson have come up to me and say, “I saw you on the weekend, Mr. Quiterio!” No, not possible. Not when I spent my weekend at home. Others say, “I saw you on T.V!” I wonder, “Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt? Who are they confusing me with?” But nope, it’s neither one. It’s some other fat, short, fugly, prieto (dusky) guy… 🙂
