Seven days ago, on Saturday, my mother did what she does most Saturdays when her work schedule and the weather allows it; she went to yard sales. She was with one of my sisters and they had with them my little brother, two nephews, and niece. Her “shopping” was far from done when the kids were getting too irritant, even for their standards! They wanted to be taken to McDonald’s, and they refused to wait a second longer. Normally my mother and sister would have gone out of their way to visit the McDonald’s near our home, but not wanting to deal with the kids’ for much longer, they chose to visit the one closest to where they were at that point.

Once at McDonald’s, they got in line and while they waited, they saw how a woman in front of them had her hands busy with four kids. At one point one of her kids grabbed her attention, which caused her to neglect another one. This last one fell to the floor, hitting his head. The woman panicked. Her child had gotten hurt, she had three other children seeking her attention, her food had been served, there were people waiting behind her… she didn’t know what to do. People stared, but nobody moved to help this lady out. No one, except my mother.

My mother told the lady things would be alright, as she helped her out by bringing her food to where she wanted to sit with her children. Once the lady was calm, my mother and the lady had a conversation. This conversation led to an exchange of phone numbers.

Yesterday, six days after this incident, my mother was at the lady’s house. She was being shown the house where she’ll likely be working soon, including the room where she’ll be spending the night if she’s ever needed to work extra hours. Her job would be to take care of the lady’s four children… who also happen to be the children of a man who’s nice… POLYnice. 🙂
