Thursday, March 25, 2004Ah, life. Last week, as I read the questions for my (Intro to Linguistics) in-class midterm, I considered walking out and not coming back. The fact that the teacher said to us before the exam, “You should be able to fill the whole blue-book” didn’t make me feel any better. I’ve never filled a bluebook! I thought, “I could write my life story in this thing and still have ample space for the midterm!” Ah, but I stuck around and did my best. When I turned in my bluebook, only two minutes remained for the teacher to request it; I was among the last five students to finish. I had written non-stop, and I had only filled half of the book. I left the room thinking, “I’m going to hell!” And today we got our bluebooks back. The teacher gave us the grading scale. He said a five was a definite A, and he rarely gave those. Four was an A/B; three B/C; two C/D, and anything less than that, a fail. A two looked good to me. A three, “only in my dreams” I thought. Imagine my surprise when I saw a four on my paper! 🙂 Pssst, here’s a little secret on how to feel good when receiving test results: study hard before the test; while you’re taking the test, pretend you don’t care what grade you receive, just as long as you do your best; after you’ve submitted the test, expect the worst. If you do all that, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! 🙂 (That, or you’ll have prepared yourself for failure, so it’s all good either way. :D) Posted by at 10:35 pm [Permalink]
