I’m such a silly ass on the first day of class. During my Literacy for Diverse Learners class I said a lot of things to win chuckles, but my favorite line was: “you mean willingly or by deportation?” That was my response to the teacher asking us if we had ever traveled out of state. You see, that line worked quite well because I had already shared with the class that I was born in Mexico and that I had come to the United States as a child. My accent only helped. Heh.

But this week hasn’t been all laughs and giggles. Its only the first week of school and I’m already stressed as hell. Just imagine this. It’s your first class meeting and you’re sitting in class with a minute to spare when you hear a familiar voice. You look up and you see a familiar face. Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Standing between the whiteboard and the desk is the one professor you planned never to take again. Ahh!

Yeah, I actually fixed my schedule so that I would avoid having Professor xxxxxxxx as my teacher. Boy did it backfire. It turns out that under-enrollment forced my chosen professor to lose the class I wanted to take with him. That alone would have been bad enough, but now imagine having as his replacement the teacher responsible for one of the saddest experiences in my life as a student. Yup. Nonetheless, I won’t drop his class. I’m gonna stick around and see why a couple of people at ratemyprofessor.com actually said he was a great teacher (most said he sucked). I’ll share his name at the end of the semester, as well as my final impressions.
