Milton (a student in the first grade classroom where I am completing my first semester of student teaching) has the habit of matter of factedly reporting “I’m done” at some point during the completion of an assignment. Hearing him say that irks me. Today his teacher wrote the word “scampered” on the board (the letters were scrambled) and invited students to come up with words using only the letters she had written. She made it clear that there were at least fifty words. Less than four minutes had passed when Milton announced, “I’m done.” I just had to chuckle. Apparently he doubles as a scrabble-machine.
